I've been sailing my entire life. One of my earliest memories was sailing on my grandparents' CS-22 around the Toronto Islands. I recall endless summers in sailing school and later teaching sailing as a teenager. Sailing is my one true passion in life. I've been fortunate enough to sail on the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean. I hold my ICC and am working towards my Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster accreditation.
I have been maintaining my own 34' sloop-rigged sailboat for years - and helping friends maintain their boats; so after 25+ years in the corporate world, I decided to turn my passion into my profession....and I bring much of my business acumen, professionalism and work-ethic with me. A friend of mine who works and is well respected in the marine industry once told me that "returning phone calls promptly and showing up when you say you will is half the battle". This is what I have been doing my entire professional life. I approach my business with the same professionalism as I did my corporate career.
I am a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS®) and I am an Accredited Marine Surveyor (AMS ® ). I am Affiliate Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS). I am a graduate of an internationally recognized program on Marine Composites & Gelcoat Repair. I am a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and an ABYC Master Marine Technician; certified in Marine Electrical Systems; Marine Corrosion; and Marine Standards. I am certified by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) as a Marine Electronics Installer (MEI). Both my SAMS® and ABYC designations require me to achieve a minimum number of Continuing Education credits each year to retain my status. This is not only beneficial to me, but also to the Clients that I serve since I am always learning and improving my skill set.
I am proficient with most marine systems including marine composite structures (fiberglass, Kevlar®, carbon fiber, and gelcoat), marine electrical systems, marine plumbing systems and pumps, and marine diesel engines. I am honest about what I can fix and what I can't. I will give you a no-charge estimate for the job at hand. Many of my clients trust me to maintain their whole boats...they ask me to fix what I can and find someone to fix what I cannot; similar to the way you'd hire a General Contractor to manage the build of your home; but who'd subcontract out certain aspects of the build. When I think a particular task is beyond my skillset or comfort zone, I have a number of Master Marine Technicians who I work closely with; and whom I can count upon.
I work mostly in the west end of the City (Boulevard Club, MCC, EYC, PCYC) but will work anywhere from Bluffer's Park to Bronte (travel fees do apply outside of the downtown core).
If you've got an aging boat which needs some work, I'd be happy to hear from you...
